HALIFAX AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY LTD
PRESENTS
THE HALIFAX AGRICULTURAL SHOW

Next Show Will Be On
8th August 2009
Savile Park Moor, Halifax HX1

This will be our 63rd show

HALIFAX Agricultural Show is facing a crisis and unless new people come on board it may have to be cancelled.

That was the message from the show's chairwoman, Jane Fairbank.

Mrs Fairbank is appealing to members of the public to take on both existing and new roles on the committee.

She said: "What we really need is new blood to bring new life into the show and the committee. If we don't get it I'm afraid there may no longer be a show.

"We now have so few members that it is getting to the point where we can't physically put the show on."

Since it began the show has grown in popularity and draws in crowds from across the county.

It is now in its 63rd year and Mrs Fairbank said it would be a shame if it had to finish.

"We would like to think that the people of Halifax would support the groups like us who are working with the countryside."

The show costs £50,000 to stage and has faced crisis before. In 2007 the show was hit by the foot and mouth outbreak which meant sheep, cows, goats and llamas were excluded.

But the show bounced back last year and spectator numbers rocketing.
Mrs Fairbank said: "The whole event is such a spectacle and we just want to be able to keep this show great."

The next agricultural show is planned for August 8th at Savile Park Moor, Halifax.

Anyone interested in finding out about the committee should attend the group's annual meeting on December 9 at The Royal pub, Pye Nest, Halifax at 7.30pm.
